Wedding Dance Floors Hire Guide for Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Bristol and Bath

When couples plan their wedding evening, they often focus on the DJ, lighting and music first. But the dance floor itself plays a huge role in shaping the atmosphere once the party begins. Whether you’re getting married in a barn in Devon, a coastal venue in Cornwall, a manor house in Somerset, or a city venue in Bristol or Bath, the right dance floor helps create a natural focal point for the evening celebration.

Why a dance floor matters at a wedding

A dedicated dance floor gives guests a clear place to gather, celebrate and dance. It visually marks the transition from wedding breakfast to evening party and helps bring energy into the room. Dance floors are especially useful in venues with carpeted areas, stone flooring, marquees or outdoor structures, where a level, clean surface makes dancing more comfortable and protects the venue floor underneath.

For wedding DJs, the dance floor becomes the centre of the evening experience. The size, placement and style of the floor all influence how the party feels.

Types of wedding dance floors

There are several popular options available depending on your venue and wedding style.

  • Parquet dance floors suit rustic venues and marquees
  • White LED dance floors work beautifully in modern or elegant spaces.
  • Some venues already have built-in dance floors, which can work perfectly well with the right lighting and DJ setup.

Choosing the right size and layout

One of the biggest misconceptions is that larger dance floors are always better. In reality, the best dance floors feel full and inviting rather than oversized. As a guide, around half of your evening guests will dance at any one time.

Typical sizing looks like this:

  • 12ft dance floor for smaller weddings of around 60 to 80 evening guests
  • 14ft dance floor for most weddings with 80 to 120 evening guests
  • 16ft dance floor for larger celebrations of 120+ guests

That said, dance floors don’t have to be square.

One of our favourite layouts is a rectangular floor, such as an 18ft by 14ft setup. This often works brilliantly in long rooms, marquees or venues where you want to create a wider “party zone” in front of the DJ booth rather than a deep square floor.

Venue layout, ceiling height and DJ positioning often matter more than the exact size itself.

Dance floors at Future Media

For weddings across Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Bristol and Bath, we provide white LED dance floors in 12ft, 14ft and 16ft configurations, along with custom rectangular layouts when the space allows.

More importantly, we help couples decide whether they actually need one in the first place. Some venues already have great dancing spaces, and sometimes lighting, staging or DJ placement will make a bigger impact than adding a floor.

The goal is always the same: creating a dance floor that feels inviting, natural and full of energy.

Next week, we’ll be sharing another guide in this series looking at how lighting shapes the evening atmosphere at weddings.
