Behind the Booth: A Summer Wedding at Deer Park Country House

DJ Marky V · Gold Package · Deer Park Country House, Honiton

Deer Park Country House is one of those venues that does a lot of the work for you. Set in the Devon countryside just outside Honiton, it has genuine character. Our job was to deliver high-end wedding entertainment.

The vision

Matt & Heidi gave us plenty of creative freedom on the night, with a handful of favourite songs & genres.

That freedom means we can do what we do best… read the room and respond to the crowd with the best song and mixing choices.

Their favourites included Rihanna, Justin Bieber, One Direction and JLS alongside ABBA, Shania Twain and Tina Turner. A brilliant mix of 2010s timeless party classics and favourites that everybody knows.

The setup

Matt & Heidi booked our Gold Package. This was also the first wedding we debuted our new bespoke DJ booth, designed and built for us by Tony Cosmo at Cosmopod.

The booth was custom-built around our Pioneer FLX10 and Wolfmix controller, creating a cleaner, more professional appearance whilst improving workflow behind the scenes. It also incorporates a front-facing screen, allowing us to personalise the setup and create a premium focal point within the room.

At Deer Park on the night it looked exactly how we wanted it to look.

For lighting we used wash lights and wireless uplighters to work with what the venue already had. Everything shifted gradually as the night went on so the atmosphere built naturally without anyone noticing the change.

The night

It was a banging party.

The music moved through 2010s pop into dancefloor classics!

By the time the dance floor filled back up after the break, it stayed that way. Guests were still on the dancefloor when the last song came around.

None of it happens by accident. The booth, the lighting, the flow of the evening and the music itself all have to work together to create the perfect wedding party.

Matt & Heidi wanted premium wedding entertainment that matched Deer Park. That is exactly what they got.

Reading the room

With the weather on our side and the venue looking its best in the sun, the evening flowed very smoothly to get the most out of both the party and the setting:

  1. First dance to open the floor
  2. A power hour straight after, keeping the energy high while the room is fullest
  3. A short break, giving guests the chance to step outside, catch up and grab a drink
  4. Back onto the dance floor for the rest of the night

That short break in the middle sounds like the opposite of what a DJ should be doing. But it actually separates a good night from a great one.

Guests made the most of the sunshine, then came back ready to party. The dance floor stayed busy for the rest of the night.

P.S. We filmed a behind the scenes of the setup on the night. Watch it here.
